Wood floor unifies this living room/kitchen

Home Decorating: Make Small Spaces Work!  If you have a smaller house (like we do), you know that it’s a challenge to keep it looking great.  The smaller the room, the more cluttered it looks if it’s over-stuffed.  So how can you make your rooms look more spacious, and less cluttered?

Well, here are a few tips from my favorite publication, Real Simple:

  • Paint walls a light color.  This will open up the room and bring in more light
  • Use closed storage when possible, only dispay a few items
  • Look for furnishings that can double as storage: a great example is a storage ottoman or trunk for a coffee table
  • Use continuous flooring throughout an area so it doesn’t break-up the space: example, wood flooring that leads from an entrance, through a living room into a kitchen.  The spaces are unified and look larger than if you had tile in the entry, carpet in the living room and another floor in the kitchen.
