Bedroom before home staging

This bedroom could use a little furniture!

So, you’ve staged the house – it looks great!  Now you schedule the open house. There are a few things you can do to help your event be successful. Here are some tips from me – Debbie, and some from Trulia.

  • Check to make sure you can get through each room easily. No furniture obstacle course! Remove any large furniture that’s in the way, and also the little stuff that may get knocked over
  • Clear an area to put out the brochures, guest book, cards and paperwork.
  • Set-up an area for guests to sit down and discuss what they’re looking for with the agent
  • Offer a few treats such as a bowl of candy, or mints, and maybe a few bottles of water (or your agent may do this)
  • Unless it’s a broker open house and you want to show off to the brokers, don’t go all out with the food and beverages.
  • Then, if you are the home owner, get out! Your agent doesn’t need you there to point out all the improvements you did over the years. They only care about what they see! (Sorry!)
Bedroom after home staging

And now, after home staging with minimal furniture!

For more “do’s and don’ts” check out Trulia’s newsletter. They have a list of things for both buyers and sellers.

If you’re not quite ready to put your house on the market just yet because you need to do some preparation, it may be time to call a professional home stager.  They can help you focus on the things that will matter and not waste your time on things that don’t matter.
